Ten cheapest cars to insure in Florida

Ten different car models, some with multiple versions based on class or series, made’s 2011 list of the 30 cheapest vehicles to insure in Florida:

Ten Chevrolet Equinox cars, ranging from $1,179 for the 4-door, 4-wheel-drive LS, to $1,237 for the 4-door, 4-wheel-drive LTZ;

Five Honda Odyssey vans, ranging from $1,179 for an LX to $1,245 for an EX-L;

Four Chevrolet Traversecars, ranging from $1,200 for the 2-wheel-drive LS to $1,237 for the 4-wheel-drive LT;

Four Ford Escape vans, ranging from $1,228 for an XLS to $1,247 a 4-wheel-drive Limited;

Two Jeep Wranglerjeeps, $1,238 for a Sport and $1,239 for an Unlimited Sport;

Chrysler Town & Country LX for $1,219;

Honda Element LX for $1,240;

Four-cylinder Mercury Mariner with 4-wheel-drive for $1,241;

Four-cylinder Toyota Sienna for $1,241; and

Four-wheel-drive Mazda Tribute for $1,241. researches information on insurance and is paid by its clients, insurers, when it provides free rate quotes to consumers. The group hired Quadrant Information Services to do the auto insurance study.

The average premiums are calculated from insurance rates from six large insurers – State Farm, Allstate, Progressive, GEICO, Farmers and Nationwide – for a male 40-year-old driver with a clean driving record and good credit who commutes 12 miles to work each day, with specified coverages, policy limits and deductibles. The premiums are calculated using 10 zip codes in Florida that represent a mix of urban and rural areas

Not all models are included, including exotic cars such as Lamborghinis.

The website also released a ranking this year for states with the lowest auto insurance costs. The average premium for a select group of drivers in Florida is less than the national average, according to the study.
