New disturbance pops up in southern Caribbean

So you thought hurricane season was over? Not quite.

A new disturbance has emerged in the southern Caribbean off the coast of Colombia.

As of 7 a.m. on Friday, the National Hurricane Center gave it a 20 percent chance of growing into a tropical depression over the next two days and noted some gradual development is possible.

It was initially aiming to the west, making the U.S. coast an unlikely target. Should it strengthen into a tropical storm, it would be named Virginie.
