Broward County’s environmental regulators are urging workers all over to turn off their computers, printers and other gizmos when leaving work Friday as part of a nationwide initiative to slash power consumption.
This is the third annual Power IT Down Day which encourages people to turn off technical equipment at the end of the workday in order to conserve energy.
This year, the Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department is trying to achieve a registration of 6,100 participants for this year’s Power IT Down Day.
According to county information, about 5,600 organizations participated in the event in 2009 and helped save about 73,000 kilowatt-hours, enough to power the homes of 77 families for a month.
