Adopt a big dog from a county shelter between now and Aug. 31, and you’ll get a $25 gift card from Pet Supermarket.
“Most people want the little guys,” said Lisa Mendheim, spokeswoman for Broward County Animal Care and Adoption. “Chihuahuas and terriers go right away. The big guys sit around and it’s a shame.”
To qualify, the dog must weigh at least 40 pounds.
Adopters have to fill out an application and pay the $74.95 adoption fee. They will receive their gift card once the adoption is approved and completed.
“We believe that every dog deserves a good home and we are happy to provide adopters with a gift card to help buy food or supplies for their new family member,” said Steve Feinberg, spokesman for Pet Supermarket.
Adoption hours at the Fort Lauderdale shelter, 1870 SW 39 St., are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Adoption hours at the Pompano Beach shelter, 3100 NW 19 Terrace, are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
